I have the honour to acknowledge the re-

ceipt of your Despatch No. 103 of the 20th. March last on

the subject of the boundary between the Admiralty and War

Department Properties and the proposed Praya East Reclamation.

This question has occupied my attention

for a considerable time and has been the subject of much cor-

respondence, extending over more than 12 months, with the

Naval and Military Authorities on the spot.

I have at length succeeded in arriving at

a compromise by which the boundary shewn in the attached plan

has been accepted by the Commander-in-Chief on the China

Station, the General Officer Commanding, 3ix Paul Chater, on

behalf of the Marine Lot-holders interested in the Reclamation,

and the Colonial Government, on the conditions embodied in

the correspondence of which I enclose copies. These conditions

are.-

That the Marine Lot-holders shall have no rights of frontage on the Western front of the pro- posed Reclamation.
